Travel is possible provided that dialysis sessions are booked in advance at a facility close to the holiday or travel destination.

• The nephrologist responsible for the treatment will contact his colleague in the place of holiday or travel to inform him of the essential elements of the medical file.
• The health insurance fund must be informed before any departure abroad in order to obtain its agreement to the reimbursement of sessions.

Abroad:
You must contact the dialysis centre and provide the health executive with their contact details. Once the department has received the invoice for the number of sessions requested, you must apply to your social security centre for prior agreement. Written agreement is essential.
In some countries, you have to pay the cost of dialysis sessions in advance: you will be reimbursed approximately 3 months after your return to France.

For short trips, you can decide at the last minute to take the necessary equipment, which will easily fit in the boot of a car or on the plane. Manufacturers make it easy to provide the equipment needed for peritoneal dialysis when travelling.
